Teeth Straightening at Sunningdale Dental Practice
Say goodbye to crooked smiles!
Why should I consider having my teeth straightened?
Sunningdale Dental Practice offers a wide range of teeth straightening treatments for patients who would love to have a straighter smile or need intervention. Common reasons for teeth straightening include:
- Misaligned teeth
- Overcrowded teeth
- Crooked teeth
- Gappy teeth
Problems like these might cause problems with eating or talking and they might even cause you to feel self-conscious and embarrassed about your smile. Treatments may also be required for reasons like issues with the bite or even difficulty in cleaning very crowded teeth.
Alternatively, treatments could simply be for aesthetic improvements. Certain treatments only work on the social six teeth to straighten the most noticeable front teeth when you smile. These are relatively fast acting, whereas more complex treatments can take longer.
Who is suitable for teeth straightening?
We provide treatments for children, teens and adults and following a consultation, our team will offer an appropriate treatment plan to help you achieve the perfect straight smile!
In some instances early interceptive orthodontic treatment that if timed correctly can sometimes prevent the need for more complex brace treatment at a later age.
What are traditional braces?
Traditional braces are much more advanced than they used to be and now you can expect them to be a lot less uncomfortable, less likely to affect the way you speak and look, and less likely to hinder how you eat. We tend to offer traditional braces when there are issues with bite and significant arch straightening is required. However, braces can work for a number of dental issues in both adults and children, so it really is individual to the patient as to whether or not they are appropriate.
Traditional braces use a visible “wires and brackets” system and whilst they are effective, they are less aesthetically pleasing than more modern treatments such as Invisalign. However at Sunningdale Dental Practice we also can use wires and brackets which are tooth coloured and so less conspicuous.
What is Invisalign?
Sunningdale Dental Practice is excited to offer the very popular straightening treatment known as Invisalign. The system is incredibly discreet, convenient and most importantly - effective.
Invisalign is particularly popular with adults because it is so discreet, using near-invisible aligners. There are no metal wires or brackets; the system just uses clear aligners to quickly straighten the teeth. You can even brush your teeth and eat without worrying about the system because you can take it out when you need to!
How Invisalign Straightens Your Teeth
Your Invisalign journey begins when you meet our Sunningdale Dental Invisalign consultant who will listen to your expectations for the treatment. We can then make an Invisalign straightening plan based exactly on your specific needs.
Next we take a digital scan of your teeth and create a digital image to show you how your teeth are now and how they will look following treatment. With a few minor adjustments based on your suggestions and also the suggestions of the dentist, we will then go ahead and create a bespoke plan for you.
We no longer have to extract teeth to create space for crowded teeth to straighten. We can now simply polish between the tight spaces of crowded teeth to create space for those teeth to move and straighten.
You'll have unique aligners created for your teeth and approximately every two weeks you will switch to a new set of aligners, along with a visit to us to check progress. You will be required to wear the aligners for between 20 and 22 hours every day to achieve the best effects in the prescribed time. The aligners a very thin and tolerable.
As you use your aligners, your teeth will move gently towards their desired positions, becoming straighter and straighter. We finalise the straightening with detail aligners, and then discuss permanent and removable retainers with you. These devices are required to stop your teeth moving back to their old positions and are important to make sure that you keep your beautiful new smile. We would strongly advise to having the permanent retainers placed to avoid the straightened teeth moving again.
How long will it take to move the teeth?
This depends on the severity of crowding or spacing in each individual case. It can possibly range from anywhere between 6-24 months and it also depends on patient cooperation with wearing the aligners.
How much will it cost?
Once each individual is assessed, then we can give you a comprehensive treatment plan along with fees involved. Theses fees can be spread across the period of treatment which is required to get the desired result, so making it a very affordable way in giving you the smile that you want.
